Flow rates: NOTE: These are my findings on my setup, results will vary.
By using standard 1/2 pvc pipe overflow with a 8" pipe and the airline running all the way open I get a flow rate of approx 45-50gph.
By using standard 3/4 pvc pipe overflow with a 8" pipe and the airline running all the way open I get a flow rate of approx 90-100gph
By using a 1" pvc pipe with the same as above I see no difference in flow rate, maybe even a decrease as I don't think the air can keep up.
All tests had the airline approx 1/2-1" from the bottom of the pipe, the higher up the airline the lower the flow rate. I also doubled the length of the pipe with no difference in results. For most of my tank setups I use the standard 3/4" "L" pipe setup with and 8" downpipe. These are used in all of the 15-20 gallon tanks with a single overflow. I also use the filter in my larger(90-125 gallon) tanks, but I also use 2 overflows driven by air. In two of my large tanks I use water pump with a dual outlet overflow that work really well. These tests use my AP-100 pond pump and a single run of airline. Running dual airlines may increase flow, but only with a larger pipe. A bigger or smaller air pumps will change these results.

This foam is very easy to cut with a straight edge and a sharp butcher knife. I haven't had any issues cutting the foam myself. Buy a whole sheet and I will cut it to your specs for no additional cost.
